A large group of gum-like materials that have rich, resinous scents and lend a warm seductive halo in oriental and chypre fragrances. Most often bittersweet and sticky, like Tolu balsam and Peru balsam, these derive from trees and plants, and are coaxed into alcohol solution to be treated with.
