Mastic
Also known as lentisque or Tears of Chios, mastic is a gum or resin coming from a Mediterranean shrub that’s related to the pistachio. Mastic has a piney, cedar-like scent, not unlike that of frankincense. Rather than being used as an incense, mastic is traditionally chewed as a breath freshener or used as a flavouring in foods.
In perfumery, it lends a slightly green, piney note to fragrances.
