Rose

Perhaps the most adored of all the flowers, rose’s importance in perfume is unparalleled. Part of this stems from the complexity and diversity of its scent, which can be dewy, powdery, woody, crisp, spicy, fruity, or all of the above!

Rose essence can be naturally extracted from the flowers via solvent or steam, giving us rose absolute or rose otto, respectively. Bulgaria, Turkey, and Morocco are all significant producers of rose oil, whilst some of the finest, most precious rose comes from Grasse. Numerous synthetics which can contribute to a rose fragrance. Phenylethyl alcohol gives a generic rosy odour, and can be used to reduce the cost of a rose formula. Other materials such as damascones and rose oxide are used to twist a rose accord in a certain direction.

Whether it’s a perfect soliflore, or a powerful rose-oud scent, this flower is always magical, adding an element of romance and passion to every rose perfume.
