Sodium chloride in its purest form is odourless, yet in perfumery, this fantasy note can be replicated with aromachemicals to bring a marine or aquatic vibe to a fragrance. It is also used in gourmands, particularly in a salted caramel accord. Fragrances containing ambergris or ambroxan are often described as being salty.
