UNUM
Lascia ch'io pianga
OUR VERDICT
Lascia Ch’io Pianga is the newest offering from Filippo Sorcinelli’s UNUM range, taking its name from an aria in Handel’s opera Rinaldo. It translates as “Let Me Weep”, where the heroine Almirena pleads for her freedom.
Opening with an intense burst of heady tuberose and jasmine furnished with the powdery softness of lilac, this becomes an unexpected quartet as a smouldering and spicy carnation note enters the scene. With time, these narcotic white floral notes appear to wilt, growing in their sultry melancholy intensity. The deep reverberant base notes of tolu balsam and animalic musk play supporting attendants to this fiery soprano.
Classically inspired but not cliche, Lascia stands apart from and yet perfectly in line with the complete UNUM range and the visions of this talented artist.
