“When Raptured in Ecstasy” is a moment of madness in Donizetti’s opera ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’. Quando journeys us through this sublime state - ranging from the fervent highs and confining lows all within a single moment of ecstasy and delirium. Filippo Sorcinelli translates Maria Callas’ interpretation of this scene, thereby explaining the cloak that adorns the bottle, by employing dramatic contrasts.

The inner stirrings of narcotic opium is represented through a persistent line of incense that runs through the entirety of the fragrance structure, rendered as if it were an alluring terror. It is sweetened yet umbrous, persistent and fine. Sweet peach entices, it bursts with its syrupy flesh and powdery skin, warming the scent with a combination of spicy numbing clove, quickly retreating as the sharp and severe green of lily of the valley becomes the dominant counterpoint in this work. It gives the incense its claws and its grip, running its sharp fingertips against the hard, dense, and powerful surface of fir balsam, patchouli, labdanum, vetiver, vanilla, and tonka bean.

Quando Rapita in Estasi is an incense of lavish construction. It is the passionate scent of metaphorical fire, of hushed flames, and engulfing plumes of smoke. It is purity defiled, sorrowful tears in the petals of muguet, a creeping madness that gradually takes over.
