Bois d’Ascese achieves the tricky feat of creating a scent of elegant smoke, doing so by fearlessly pairing it back in order to showcase more of the smoky theme, creating a fragrance that is utterly captivating. It begins with supreme quality ingredients, finely layering many impressions of smokiness to form a resolute and coherent whole. This includes dusty tobacco, peated Scotch whisky, the dense intensity of cade wood, all balanced with the fine ambery sweetness of labdanum. This is given propulsion with Somalian incense, which ascends like fire.

For many, Bois d’Ascese particularly calls to mind the finest qualities of peated and oaked Islay Scotch, which is renowned for its overt and concentrated power, with a smokiness that supports impressions of seaspray, rubberiness, and even iodine. On the other hand, Bois d’Ascese is an image of an old wooden structure set ablaze. The fragrance itself burns from underneath, capturing the moment in the midst of its smoulder.
